Back at it Baby!

Hi Everyone!

It’s been a long ass time! How is everyone doing ? Nothing like a global pandemic to get your life turned up side down , am I right? How have you been holding up?

I know so many people have been affected by this pandemic in so many negative ways.  All I can do is hope for a safe end soon and our lives to return to normal.

Let’s recap: when last we checked in with our heroine, I was on the eve of my first rituxan infusion. LET ME TELL YOU FOLKS – THIS SHIT IS THE REAL DEAL!  I am still dealing with ” Meganitis” , what is ” Meganitis”, you ask?  You can scroll back through all my posts to see my struggles, but this is the breakdown. Halloween 2014, discovered a lump . turned out to be inconclusive, then spring 2015 another lump – again inconclusive.  They were enlarged lymph nodes. Blood work all over the place, rash , fevers, chills, which turned into fire skin. Had Scans, PET and CT, 11 doctors , and still no answers. Multiple medications that worked for like a week, just to not work. Diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and at one point Stills Disease ( now since ruled out )

Current status is a flare up / flare down type of situation . Flare time results in severe whole body pain, lymph nodes in pain, ( arm pits hurting is the weirdest thing ) It sucks.  My rheumatologist and my immunologist are the drs I see the most. Working together. They came up with having the infusions. The infusions deplete B cells that cause inflammation which is why they are life right now.  So you are supposed to get them about every 6 months. I am up to about 4 months.  But man, once they kick in – sweet relief!  I feel like I have my life back. It sucks cause this is a whole day process. The infusion lasts about 6 hours.  But I will do it if it means I get months pain free.  My hopes is that I will get to the point where I do not need them anymore.  A gal can dream.

On my weight loss surgery front – I am still stuck at 80 lbs.  It was hard to work out or get moving when you are in constant pain. Now I have been trying to get moving more. I have been taking walks every weekend , excursions, bird watching .  I like it cause I can get a good walk in , a couple miles without even really realizing it. Plus getting out walking, its easy to social distance and nature is all around us!  I need to get under 200 lbs. Its a goal and I need to hit it. Part of the reason I am getting the old blog back up and going. Its a mental thing , but great for accountability for myself.  But I really feel these walks are helping me, take a look at my progression so far:

The picture on the left was taken at Easter 2018, picture on right, July this year. When I took the picture on the right , it was the first time I was like – ” whoa, this is me?!?!”  I feel my walks are really helping me get moving .

So, in other news I have become a birder, wildlife photographer.  At least attempting it, lol.  Its funny cause when I was a kid I hated birdwatching with my parents. Now , my dad and I discuss birds and go places looking for rare birds.   We found a Mississippi Kite in Durham NH, as you can guess by the name, the bird should not of been there, but it was.  Kinda cool if you are into that type of thing.

Here are some recent pics I have taken on my excursions.  Mass Audubon membership was the best thing to get!

Osprey at Parker River Wildlife Refuge

So that’s whats new with me.  What is new with you? How are you dealing with this world right now?

Hope you are all well and your families stay safe!

Things to Think About

Weekend Wrap Up

I had a pretty good weekend !  How about you ?

I was up really early on Saturday , 4:30 am , had to be to work for 6 am .  Then it was a 10 hr day . Usually after working on Saturday  I need to take a nap . I was pretty exhausted when I got home but it was almost 5 so I just kinda relaxed .

We had dinner then I decided I wanted to try and go for a walk . There is a rail trail about 10 mins from my house , so the hubs and I headed there .

Lo and behold , I walked and survived. I survived all 2.4 miles !!!

2.4 miles !!!!

I was dying at the end of the walk but I am so glad I did it .

Then today , my daughter and I headed to my sisters house . First off was some Pokémon Go , my daughter and nephew had a blast . We walked around for a while, had some lunch , then headed back to the house for swimming .

It was definitely not as warm as I would have liked but , I wanted to get some water aerobics (or my version of them ) in .

I was in the pool for about 45 minutes , running , walking , did high knees , jumping jacks and some actual swimming .

Man , was I tired after that , honestly, still am .  But – again , I did it !

Not only did I get in exercise this weekend , I am down 8 lbs since I got back in the wagon !

Cheers to a great week everyone!

Daily Rants and Raves

Color Me Rad!

Yesterday I participated in my second 5k.  Color Me Rad at Kimball Farm in Haverhill.  I was completely unprepared for this, but for me, this race was not about beating my time, it was about hanging with my girls, having fun and getting messy with colors being thrown at me.  Mission Success!

For those who are unfamiliar with a Color Run – you wear light colors and run/ walk the race . Through out the race there are different stations where they throw corn starch ” Color bombs ” at you.  So, by the end, you are basically a tie dyed mess.  The colors washed off when I got home, but the laughs are going to remain 🙂

There were tons of people there.  I went with my friends Kristina, Christel, and Melissa.  Loud music, stage with folks dancing and being silly to win prizes, free iced tea and picture ops.  We got in line to get our numbers and we were told there were no more safety pins.  That started our day of laughs, how were we going to keep the number on ourselves?  I opted for placing it in my cleavage for the time being.  We got our t shirts and we got sunglasses.  They had photo ops in different spots, we took our ” before ” picture and took some with the color bombs in different poses. During the wait in one of these lines for pictures, I started asking folks if I could have 1 of their safety pins.  Eventually we got 4 from random people so  we could at least have our number pinned to us somehow.  After that,  We hung out for a bit until it was time to get in line for our wave.

Here is our before pic – complete with the Photo Bomb !

And we were off, it moved really slow, so I was psyched, thinking ” Okay, maybe I CAN run this”.  We ran into our friend Jen from the gym during the first stretch.  Then we round a corner to this ridiculous hill.  Steep and covered in mud – not intentional for the race, but mother nature.  The first “SWEET BABY JESUS” of the day was let out.  So here I am trying to climb this stupid hill , they had these little ropes for people to hold on to, my feet keep slipping.  All I can think is my feet are going to slip, I am going to fall and all these little folks behind me are going to be knocked over like bowling pins when my body comes crashing down the hill.  Thank goodness I made it to the top with no crashes!

We get to the top and see the lay of the land.  Or rather should I say the slant of the land.  The course was carved out of the fields of the farm, basically, they mowed part of the field and created the track.  So, yeah, the grass and unevenness of the path was wonderful to attempt to run on.  I cannot imagine how many rolled/ sprained ankles there were.  It was really hard to run on for me.  So, at that point , Melissa and I opted to walk it.  Which still was difficult, but there were tons of people who made the same decision.  They had different photogs set up along the route, so when we got close, we would do actions shots like we were running.  Make it look good, lol.  So, we kept moving, we hit all the color stations.  One of them was this liquid blue one, brrr… it was cold.  Got all over my hands too, I looked like Violet Beauregard from Willy Wonka.

We trekked through the course and finally had the finish in our sites.  I tried to run down the finish line, it was soooo un even, lucky I did not not trip. But at the finish were my girls, cheering us on.  Awesome feeling!  We ended up with a time of about 50 minutes.  I didn’t think that was too bad, since my running 5 k time is 45  minutes.  But honestly, who cares?  It was about having fun.  At the finish we also got to see 2 of our other gym gals, Kelly and Cristina come across the finish.

The absolute best part of they day was watching Melissa’s friend Jen make her way to the finish line.  It was her first 5 k.  I remember mine and the feeling of accomplishment is so overwhelming when you make that commitment to yourself.  It was a really tough course to do as your first 5k.  I don’t even know her, but I was so proud of her.  I am so glad I got to share in her moment.

Its moments like those that make this journey so freaking awesome.  We meet these amazing people and we all share the same goals.  We all cheer each other on.  Its just what we do.  Cause, who doesn’t need a cheering squad, right?
