Progress is Progress No Matter How Small!

I had a great week last week work out wise.  I worked out 4 times last week.  I was really happy with that.

My Saturday workout I was really pleased with.

Here is how I did:

10 Front Rack Alt Lunges 35 lbs – I could not add weight to the bar for these, my lunges still need work.

5 Hand Stand Push Ups = Okay, so I am up on the wall, I can’t do the full push up , but I can stay on the wall and bend my arms, which Coach Jane said is the first step – so PROGRESS!

20 Hollow Rocks – Ugh, these are hard!

It was 20 min AMRAP – I got 5 rounds and into the 6th by finishing the lunges.

So, I am not getting down on the HSPU, but I am on the wall! Whoo Hoo! And I am staying up on the wall!!! And I can bend my arms!!! I was soooo happy with this! So yes, its small progress, but it is progress!

I had moments this week with the HSPU.  They are such a mental exercise.  I was psyching myself out, totally.  It took me a bit to get into the zone.  It is a lot of weight to hold up!

This past week I also got started with my gyms 60 Day Goal Challenge.  Basically we have indiviualized goals we want to work on .  We are given homework to work on.  We have 60 days to work on our goals, and at the end of the 60 days the person with the most points wins $$$$.  I am doing it more to work on my goals than the money, but its a nice incentive.

My Goals are :

20 Consecutive Double Unders

10 Pull Ups unbroken with green and tan band

Deadlifts – need to set my base line, but I wanted to do 5×175 lbs, but since I just did 210 on the deadlifts, we have to reassess this

Hand Stand Push Ups = So, what I wanted to do was the push up part, since I could do the hand stand part.  Now that I am at the point where I can bend my arms, we have to assess it and come up with my plan for those.

Also as part of this, there is a weekly challenge for everyone to participate in if we choose.  This week was 50 Double Unders for Time.  My time was 5:23.  Honestly I thought it would take me longer.  I was only able to get 4 in a row , but at least I did 50.  I worked on my double unders all week, before each class I was jumping away.  I still did not get to where I want to be with them, still have a ways to go.

I feel really great about where I am going and how I am doing right now.  I had my moment last week getting upset over the running, but I moved on.  The old Meg would probably of kept harping on it and let it keep her down.  That is not me anymore.

Great Weekend!

images-6

I had a real great weekend!  For starters, I had class Saturday morning.  Felt good.   Then Saturday night, we had a party for my husbands birthday. Today, my son was in another parade, so we went to that. So, it was busy.

Saturdays workout was 3 mini work outs in 1.  Each workout we had 8 minutes to complete as many rounds as possible. Here is how I did:

It was a partner WOD, but since there was an odd number of people in class, I got to do it on my own, which is perfect for me.  I hate feeling like I am dragging my partner down.

#1. 10 dead lifts at 95 lbs, 20 mountain climbers – going into it, I felt pretty good about this one, I have done dead lifts at this weight before.  Mountain Climbers, as long as there is a good beat to do them to, they are not so bad.  The goal was to get as many rounds as possible, so I pushed it.  I completed 6 rounds in the 8 minutes.

#2. 10 ring rows, 10 broad jumps  – Ring rows always get me, I can do 3 or 4, then I need to stop and regroup, then 3 or 4 more. I have to do them in small sets, which is ok, but a pain in the butt and takes me forever.  The broad jumps, those were not too bad.  Kinda fun jumping around 🙂 I completed 5 rounds in the 8 minutes.

#3. 10 push ups, 10 slam balls at 20 lbs – At this point, my arms were ready to fall off. I had to do my push ups on my knees 😦  . I was ready to fall over by the end of the 8 minutes. I completed 4 rounds in the 8 minutes.

All in all, I was pleased with most of my performance.

I have to just keep chipping away at everything, it is working for me so far.  Just Keep Swimming!!!!

Today is my hubby’s birthday.   We had a bunch of friends and family over last night for a poker party.  I am not going to lie – I freakin loved hearing how good I looked.  I had not seen some of these folks in  a  few months, so to hear this from my near and dear – well, it was awesome! I was on cloud nine!  Now, I did make a whole bunch of food and of course it was not the most health concious food, but boy o boy was it yummo. I made sure not to stuff my face too much.  Which is good for me, cause usually when we have the get together’s, I always have a ton of food and make myself 3 or 4 plates. So, the fact I limited myself, was a victory .

Today we also went to the Merrimac Santa Parade to see my son Tyler march with his marching band. It was raining, but I was so proud to see him marching in his uniform.  I was one proud mama.  Its the little things that make everything worth wild.

Pull – ups – My Phantom Menace

I have a new nemesis – Pull Ups. I can’t friggen do them.  I can barely do ring rows instead.  I need to get my upper body strength better.  I have so much weight to ” pull up”  So – we have a new goal.

My modification for the pull ups is ring rows.  Ring rows for those who are unaware, is when you have your hands in rings, then lean back and move your feet in , then pull your self up .  See the pic below.

This particular exercise is terrifying for me as the reigning Mayor of Fatty McButterpants City.   I have to hold myself up on these little nylon straps and pray they hold as I struggle to pull my self up.  I feel as if the whole rig is gonna topple over on me.  I know it won’t , I think it is bolted to the floor, but when you are using your own weight and you have a lot of it, any thing is possible, especially things snapping and breaking.  You know what I mean, that wobbly chair, you look at it and it crumbles to pieces.  You sit your ass in the car and the whole side goes wayyyyyy down.  Forget about sitting in those little kid chairs at Parent Teacher Conferences, HA! Its easy when you have a big butt to break things with it.

The sad thing is, as someone who is larger, this is what I think about.  I can’t wait until I don;t have to think about it. I am well on my way.

If  I looked at this like I was defeated, Sweet Baby Jesus, where would that leave me?  I WILL do it, maybe not soon, but I will.

SO yeah, Star Wars reference, the fam loves Star Wars, especially my oldest.    I thought it was a good way to tie them in 🙂

Gotta keep up the swim folks!!! We will get there!

Meg 🙂
