Sweaty Eyeballs

First off –

Remembered my sneakers for Wednesdays workout, lol

I gotta say folks, I am sore as hell today, but it is THE best feeling.  I worked my ass off this week and I am so happy to be back into my rhythm.

It’s amazing how much I missed it.  I know this is the right way for me to go and as long as I keep going, everything else will fall into place.

Wednesday was a strength day.  Overhead Squats were the nemesis.

Now, I can’t say for certain, but as much as I recall, I could never really do OHS with weight , I usually did them with a dowel or training bar.  Well my friends, my 1 Rep Max was 35 lbs!  I know, not much, but for me this is astounding! The other gals in class got much higher, one was even 100 lbs!  Incredible to watch #girlsthatlift.

After the 1 Rep Max, it was onto the workout.  You guessed it, more OHS.  But this time, it was 100 OHS for time.  Yup.  100.  And every time the bar hit the floor, it was a 10 sit up penalty.  For this portion of the workout, I used the dowel.  But honestly, it wasn’t any easier.  It sucked.  I found myself putting the dowel down to do the sit ups as a break.  It was hard and I was sweating out my eyeballs, lol.

It was an AMRAP in 20 minutes.

Our goal for this was at least 5 rounds.  My arms were not as bad as I thought they were going to be from the OHS —- until I started.  I banged through the 1st round now prob, then the 2nd round, it was a little harder.  By the 3rd round, we decided the 35 lbs looked too easy and I tried 45 lbs.  I did the round with the 45lbs but boy-o was it a challenge! I went back to the 35lbs for the rest of the rounds.

For this workout – I got 7 rounds and 5 reps!!!! Goal was 5  rounds .  I think 7 rounds of anything in 20 minutes is pretty freaking good!

Chips are funny. I look at them as accomplishments .  I know to some they mean nothing at all, but when I look at these  7 chips, I am so damn proud.

Back to the Beginning

Whenever I say the phrase ” Back to the Beginning” I think of the Princess Bride where Inigo Montoya ( played by the amazing Mandy Patinkin)  is drunk and Fezzik ( played by larger than life Andre The Giant) finds him when he needs to clear the Thieves Forest.  And I say it in my head the way Inigo says it…. silly, I know but it makes me laugh.  Check it out.  I tried finding a good clip of the line but the one I found was of horrific quality, and my readers deserve better than that! Seriously, The Princess Bride is my favorite movie of all time.   Yes, I am one of those people who can quote the whole movie.

But I digress…

So, tonight was my first night back to Cross Fit in almost  month.  As much as it stunk for me not working out – I am kinda glad my doctor said to take it easy, it is a strenuous activity.  So, I am glad I waited.  I felt like it was my first night.  I regressed so much. Ugh 😦

Here’s How I did :

Back Squats 4×12

Last time I did back squats, I PR’D! Tonight – it was more reps and totally did not even get close to my PR. My PR is 145 lbs. Tonight it was 65 lbs.  And Good Lord was it hard! But I did 4 sets of 12.  So, I am happy with that.

WOD

3 rounds for time

10 OHS

30 abmat sit ups

45 Kettle bell Swings

15 min time cap

I made it through exactly 2 rounds.  My Overhead Squats were atrocious, so so so bad, so incredibly bad that I had to use the training bar.  Granted, its been quite a while, but the training bar ? Christ, my ego was crushed into tiny itty bitty pieces.  I could only do a few reps with the womens bar, no way I could do the whole workout with it.  Soul crusher.  Blah.

The abmat sit ups I feel I did really good, I decided to challenge myself and do them as butterfly sit ups.  I could do those…

Kettlebells – I usually use the 35 lbs KB, but first night back, I didn’t want to kill myself, so I went with the 26 lb.

All in all, it was great to be back .  I feel good.  Looking forward to tomorrow night!

Then, this weekend, my friends and I are doing the Biggest Loser Walk/ Run ! Should be interesting!

Gotta keep swimming!

Lunge and Squat Hangover

One of the things that stinks when you wobble off the wagon is getting back into the wagon and your body adjusting.  Granted I was only off my game for 2 weeks, but my legs are still sore from the lunges of my Monday workout and the squat jumps and over head squats from Wednesdays workout.

Lets break down my work out from Wednesday:

We did Overhead Squats – I knew it was going to hurt but it is better to keep moving than to sit and wait for it to feel better ( at least for me it is) .  Squats are not my strong suit as you all know, but I kinda rocked it with the Overhead Squats .  How, I do not know, but I felt really great about them.  My weight was 30 lbs which is the heaviest I have done yet for Over head Squats.  Here is a picture of someone doing an over head squat for those who are unfamiliar.

You have to lock your arms out over your head and hold the barbell, then squat.  So, I was fearing them until I started them, and saw I could do it easier than I did before – so PROGRESS! And get this – so I am down in the sit and look up , I can see my right arm’s reflection in the window in front of me = and you know what ?!?! This gal’s got some muscle! Now, maybe it was the lighting, or a shadow, but I really think it was definition starting to show through!

So – that was the first part of the work out then it was the WOD.

3 minutes on/ 1 minute off    for 4 rounds

4 Ring Dips  ( used green band)

6 Alternating Push Press ( 25 lbs DB)

8 Jump Squats

My score was : 186 reps

So, why do I say ” Hangover”? Cause my gams are still sore! It was the laugh of the week at the office too since I was shuffling around, but I kept saying when I lose all this weight, who will be laughing then?!?!

You know, when I started this, I was just in the now, working on myself taking it one day at a time, which I still do.  But I am loving the thought of 2 years down the road and being a fit person.  They always say Hard work will pay off – and by golly I am the living embodiment of it.
