Things to Think About

Sometimes you surprise yourself

Happy Easter Folks!

Sometimes you surprise yourself, I think that is really the best surprise .  I was at the gym 3 times this week .  Did some new stuff and did things that honestly going into it , I thought I had no chance.

I have been pretty sore this week, which sucks, not gym sore, but me sore, if that makes sense.  I started taking Plexus .  One of my blog friends I met a few years ago got me into it.  I  have to say, I don’t know how, but this stuff works.  For example, I am always sore, but when I take it, I am not as sore, and I feel great.  That’s enough for me.  If you are interested in reading up on Plexus or would like to check it out and try some your self, check out my site : Meg’s Plexus site.  Yes, I signed up to sell it, but really just to get a better deal on it.  Hey, at this point, anything that makes me feel better, I owe it to myself to try it.  And the doc said it was good too.

The gym this week was great!  Three times again, really happy with that .

Monday – Sweet Baby Jesus – Monday was killa!

It was :

15 Wall balls, 15 burpees ( modified) ,15 KB swings ( i think I had 26 lbs), 15 BW squats, 15 side toe touch planks, 75 singles, 15 Step ups, 15 Push Press 55 lbs

The work out was 2 mins to get through as much as you can, rest, 4 mins to get through as much as you can starting from beginning, rest, 6 mins get through as much as you can from the beginning , rest , then get through all of it.  Man O Man.  It was rough.  Even though everyone else was doing 25 reps, and I had things modified, it was so hard!

Wednesday – Lift Day !

We worked on Front Squats – now since returning to the gym my squats are just as horrid as they were when I started 3 years ago.  If not worse, I did not think I was going to be able to do this, let alone with the bar…. And whaddya know? Not only did I do them with the bar, I kept adding weight!

Here is how I did :IMG_4112

10 reps @ 30 lbs

8 reps @35 lbs

6 reps @40 lbs

4 reps @ 45 lbs

2 reps @ 50 lbs!!!!

And I did not fall over!!! I thought for sure that was going to happen.

Then we did some bench presses.  Surprisingly , I have never done bench presses before, but I gotta say…. Mama like!  These are awesome!! Where have they been all my life?!

For these I knew I could do them , no question. Here is how I did:

10 reps @ 55lbs                                                        Bench Press!

8 reps @ 65 lbs

6 reps@ 70 lbs

4 reps @ 75 lbs

Please do not mind my Tweedle belly which you can clearly see on display here.

By Tweedle, I mean Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.  See what I mean, lol.images-2

After that , we had some accessory work. It was 3 rounds, my weight kept going up each round, which felt great .  I love lifting the weights.

8 landmine bent over rows – 10lbs, 20 lbs, 25 lbs

8 single arm floor press ( a fav! ) 20 lbs, 22 lbs, 25 lbs

20 mountain climbers, 20 supermans

I felt so freaking amazing when I left the gym on  Wednesday.

Thursday – Holy Crap on a Cracker. IMG_4116

It was a 20 min AMRAP.

8 DB Snatches Alt 25 lbs!

12 single leg squats ( did this modified with the help of the TRX)

6 Plank rows ( no weight) into a reverse lunge ( no weight)

I don’t know how, but I made it through 4 plus 8  rounds.  At one point during the squats I was trying to breathe, and I kept saying ” Just Keep Swimming ” Swear to God, that mantra works wonders.

IMG_4117
My round chips – 3 White for the Goal , 1 Red for Goal Smashed!

Then there was a ”  But wait , there’s more ” Bonus – 4 rounds , 30 mountain climbers, 10 bw squats.  I completed it in 3:46.  How I did not collapse, I will never know.  Another happy surprise, lol.

I also tried cutting out bread , pasta and soda.  Past 2 weeks I have done pretty good.  No pasta at all, which for me is an eternity.  Soda, I had some this weekend, and bread too.  It’s Easter. Fresh snowflake rolls.  I did not stand a chance. But hey, whats life if you can’t enjoy it , right?  I will be back on the good streak tomorrow. Back to the gym too.

I am trying to get in walks where I can .  I work on a very busy stretch of road, and we are surrounded by trailer parks.  Not exactly a scenic walk, but a walk is a walk. Today, we got home from Easter festivities and I took my pup for a walk.  At least its something.

Today was the 1st Easter without my Gram.  We had steaks and french fries, it was what my Gramps wanted, so we did it.  It just did not feel like Easter without her.  I would bring her Easter Lilies here and there, so I wanted to make sure I got one to her today .  I think she would of liked them, they smelled beautiful.

Ready to crush another week! Are you ??

Just Like Riding a Bike

A Very Happy Tuesday to you all!

Well folks , Yesterday was one of my best days in a very long time.  Not only am I trying to lose weight , but now I had this added in mystery illness where no one can diagnose me. There is no possible way that losing weight and working out can harm me in any way , so I am diving back in , no matter if I am sore or not.  Honestly , I am always sore, there is a baseline level of soreness, some days it flares up.  I am making changes to try and see if any of it works to help me feel better.

One thing I have tried is Plexus, not for the weight loss aspect, but for the blood sugar level out and the help with inflammation . And, I gotta tell you , for those aspects, its definitely working . My only issue is that you need to drink tons of water when taking it and I am doing that , but I feel like I am retaining water. So, I am going to check with the doctor when I see him this week.

Now, it is no secret that healthy eating and I have never been good friends, but I am taking a different approach.  I am attempting to cut out Soda, Bread, and Pasta.  That last one is going to be a killer.  I loves my pasta.

Day 1 of this plan, I think it went very well.  My biggest victory was lunch, I got a burrito bowl from Qdoba. I got rice, chicken, cheese, a splash of queso and GUACAMOLE! Yes, guacamole.  This was a very large step for me.  I know to most, you are probably thinking  ” Is this chick all right?” but this was big for me.

So much so , I took a pic

Guacamole !

Next up on my healthy quest was snacking.  I wanted to find something I could snack on and not eat crap.  So, I went with almonds.  But, I found, salted caramel almonds! And Sweet Baby, are those suckers delish! I took a pic of those too!

IMG_4078

The salted caramel is not a thick caramel all over them, it is more like a salted caramel sugar, I don’t know , but it is yummo ! And only 4 carbs for 28 pcs! Winner Winner !

Now for the best part of the day :

BACK TO THE GYM!!!!

I found my notebook from the last time I was in the gym…. 8/13/15! Ugh. So not proud of that .

IMG_4079Here is how I did tonight:

6 rounds 30 seconds work : 30 seconds rest

Thruster / Burpees ( 15 lbs db, mod burpee)

10 thrust/5 burp – 9 thrust/7 burp – 7 thrust/6 burp – 6 thrust/6 burp – 4 thrust/5 burp – 5 thrust/5 burp

Snatch/ Jump Rope (15 lbs db, single jumps )

9 snatch/44 jump – 9 snatch/35 jump – 8 snatch/38 jump – 8 snatch/ 29 jump – 8 snatch/13 jump – 8 snatch/44 jump

I love dumbbell snatches.  One of my favorites!  I was dying at the end , but I felt so good! And waking up this morning, I feel great !

Looking forward to what today will bring .

Get out there and get swimming folks!!!

Happy Tuesday Folks!

Like I said, I was back at class last night, and SWEET BABY! Did it feel good!

Granted, I scaled the whole workout, but who cares? I did so much better than I thought I would.  And that is freaking awesome to me!

Here is the workout and How I did:

20-15-10-5

Back Squats 15lbs ( training bar, but that is ok)

Burpees over the bar

200m run

My back squats, I was so okay with just the training bar.  Even the 15 lbs was a struggle.  Burpees – You know how much I hate those damn things, but I did them.

My biggest surprise of the night was the running.

As you can recall, me and running, we are not exactly friends, more like mortal enemies.

There was (4) rounds of the 200m run, so I dove right in.  I did my saunter-jog.  Not walking, not quite running, but moving at a steady pace.

AND EACH ROUND I DID NOT WALK!

My calves were on fire!  But I didn’t walk.  I JUST KEPT SWIMMING!!!

I know, I know, it was only 200 m each time, but for me, that is huge!!!

Take the Little victories where you can folks!!!

Have an Incredible Day !!!!

Back with a Vengance!

Hello there people!

How have you all been?  I have been busy ( of course), lol.  Work has been super busy, kids finished up school and all the jazz that goes along with it.

All that being said, I have continued with my workouts.  I have said before , how this year, I really have been unhappy with myself over how I have done.  I haven’t been eating right, I wasn’t getting to class as much.  I am happy to report I am back on track.  THIS IS WHAT I NEED. BADLY.  I have increased my classes to get myself in the right routine.  So far, so good!

Even though I have was not getting to class as much as I wanted, I still gave it my all when I was there.  I had some PR’s in June too!

So, lets start fresh with this week.  Here’s how I have done so far:

images-3

Monday

Back Squat Strength Practice

5×3, 105 lbs, 125 lbs, 125 lbs, 135 lbs, 145 lbs!!! ——> That’s a PR Baby!!!

Then the work out was a 12 Min Amrap

6 Push Press – 65 lbs

12 OH Plate lunges 15 lbs – this was supposed to be with the bar, but there was no way I could do it, so first I started with 25 lbs plate, that was a joke. So, my coach gave me the 15 lbs plate  instead.  What a difference that made.  I got through 5 rounds plus 10 reps into the 6th.  I was really psyched about the Back Squat PR.  So proud of myself!

Today

Today was my first venture into the 5 am class.  The amount of strength in that class is pretty amazing.  Inspiring to watch everyone.  I really struggled with the workout today and I told myself if I get through 1 round, I would be happy with that.  So , here goes:

800 m run – last one of course.  But I finished the run.  Took me a long time though.

25 Burpees – the devil.  Serious. Devil burpees.  I hate them so much.  They slow me down cause I can’t freakin do them great.  Took for-fucking-ever to get them done.

25 Power Cleans – 85 lbs.  i was doing 65 lbs, but Holly said to go to the 25 lbs. Glad I did – another PR!

25 Pull Ups – double green band , still 😦  but I got them done too

I only got 10 burpees into the next round, it was supposed to repeat the 25’s, then another 800 m run.  Some folks finished it.  I was happy just to be working out.

Some day , I will finish all the WOD’s, lol!

You know, this blog is really the best motivation I could have.  Reading back some of these entries.  Man, I have come a long way.  And there is so much farther to go!

Its getting fun folks!

Adios Tan Band!

You read it right folks! Off of the Tan band and onto 2 green bands for my chin ups/ pullups!  In my gym, the tan band is the most resistance.  As some may remember, I am working on my goals for the 60 day Challenge. One of my goals is Pull Ups.  I find it way easier to do Chin ups, so I did Chin Ups last night.  Coach Jane wanted me to try with out the tan band, I did and Adios Tan Band!  Even though that was the band for me, no one was using the tan band, so it made me feel like Ugh.  No one’s fault, but I just felt crappy.  So, I am so glad to report the tan is gone!  I ended up doing my homework for my pull ups.  I also did my Double Under homework before class.  I was able to get 5 in a row, I am getting better, I think… lol.

Onto the WOD.

Last nights WOD was 3 rounds of 3 different sets of movements for time.  Here is how I did:

3 rounds

5 Front Squats – 65 lbs

10 Toes To Bar – not even close to this yet, so I jump up and do knee raises

3 rounds

5 Power Cleans – 65 lbs

10 Hands Release Push Ups

3 rounds

5 Shoulder to Over head – 65 lbs – I went went the push press for this

10 Lateral Hop Burpees

Time 17:00 minutes

Now, I have to say, I was shocked when I looked around the room and I was done and I was not last.  I think I was in the front of the pack.  I am still wicked slow on my Burpees, but they are getting better.  I am so happy about that.

burpees2

On another note, Can I just say how awesome you all are? I have had such great feedback from so many people from all over the world and it is so cool! Just goes to show, no matter where you come from, we are all in the same boat trying to get fit.

And the Weekly One More! Holy Moly! So happy to see people doing it! Can’t wait to see how everyone’s weeks go!
